HAITI
The first PhotoStory project was conducted in 2000 at the Matenwa Community Learning Center (MCLC) in a small mountain village on the island of Lagonav. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and 80% of the population is illiterate. MCLC provides alternative education for children and adults. The Matenwa PhotoStory project presented teachers and semi-literate students at the center, the training and materials to create their own books in Haitian Creole for the community library.
